Like I say, I've never seen this discussed as an issue, so I'd like to know if it is at all common, and if so what remedy there might be I hope I'm right about this, but of course nobody tells you what note you are singing, you just know. afaics This is because as the vocal falls, the accompanying chord rises ( A to D in the first verse), and my voice just wants to follow the chord progression with total confusion. Peggy Sue, my singing deserts me, and I just freeze. Now specifically, when trying to play a simple song like e.g. ![]() the clarinet and the harmonica, that the instinct fails, and I assume this is because we are all exposed to singing from an early age, not necessarily the case for an instrument. one knows instinctively whether the nest note is up, down or the same without thinking about it. It's " easy " when singing to follow a melody, i.e. I can ( sort of ) sing, and play all the common chords ( F excepted), but here's the problem which I have not seen discussed anywhere. As a newbie I have all sorts of problems like most do, however this one really caught me out.
